Abstract

In the last few years due to the fast changes in the market, new theories rose in the field of management. The idea behind these theories is to manage the task in a structure way i.e. adherence to procedures and work plan on the one hand and manage the task in a flexibility manner i.e. combining improvisation and conformance to the market on the other hand.

Research performed lately in this field found that successful organizations that combine structure and flexibility become more competitive. Many organizations struggle on the right way to combine these two dimensions. Despite these findings few researches had been perform on this subject and this management agenda almost did not influence organization that depends mostly on structure manner, especially in the field of projects. 

The definition of project is a one-time effort, planning without early and complete information about performing any work, and the influence on performing integrated works. In contrast to a regular work or a task, the project contains a certain level of uncertainty. The uncertainty exists in the area of time, cost, resource, technology capability and environmental condition. In order to reduce the uncertainty organizations began to use tools like PMBOK and tried to create structure path that should improve project outcomes. Yet the influence of flexible technique on project outcome haven't been checked, therefore this paper examined the influence of the way the project managed (structure, flexible, combination of structure and flexible) on the project outcomes.

I found that the interaction between structure and flexibility influence in a significant way on project outcomes - the influence of structure on project outcomes would be smaller when the flexibility in project would be higher. In addition to that I found that there is a connection between the type of managing - structure or flexible and the project outcomes.

The work findings lead to the conclusion that combined way of management, structure-flexible, is very highly recommended in project management and will lead to better project outcomes.
