Abstract

Only in the last decade companies, started to apply standards and procedures for testing the software quality and reliability. Toward this end the Software Quality Assurance group improves its performance using automatic testing. In this work two such tools will be presented: Capture and replay (WinRunner) and Model based test generation based on “behavior model” (GOTCHA - TCBeans).
First aim of this work is to examine whether the insertion of a tool, which generates tests automatically into company, which uses WinRunner for running the tests automatically, will improve the testing process of the product. This aim was studied by using four experiments with different application testing. The conclusions of these experiments were that after we examine the suitable of the testing application working with GOTCHA, we could see improvement of testing quality by finding more defects.

Second aim of this work was to compare the generation of manual tests to automatic tests and the running of the tests respectively. The conclusions of this comparison were that using GOTCHA would improve the maintenance and functionality coverage of the testing application.

In this work we saw need to change the methodology of application testing using GOTCHA which was examined in a fifth experiment. This methodology is described and also shown in work flow chart.

As a summary we found that inserting GOTCHA into the testing process reduces the test time, and improves the efficiency and the quality of the product at the end of the process.
