Welcome - a message from the Dean

פרופ' הילל פרת Dear candidate,

The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology began teaching in 1924 and is the oldest institution of higher learning in Israel. Over the years Technion and its researchers have spearheaded new technologies and innovative approaches to scientific challenges and today Technion is one of the highest ranked universities in science and technology in the world. Technion is known for its high level of research, mentors and graduate students.

We are eager to bring to Technion the best and most talented graduate students to sustain and advance the research conducted at the Technion. We therefore continuously invest in improving conditions for our students and provide them with a green environment, generous stipends, travel stipends to attend meetings overseas, not to mention excellent research facilities and conditions.

The diverse and academically-challenging teaching and research activities within the various faculties of the Technion cover engineering, exact sciences, life sciences, medicine and architecture in addition to unique multi-disciplinary topics such as nano-science, energy and autonomous systems and robotics. Technion, through its Graduate School, offers a large number of diverse graduate programs with emphasis on either research or courses. I am sure you will be able to find here the program that best suits your interests.

In the course of your graduate studies at the Technion you will have the opportunity to work with the exceptional researchers of the Technion who are devoted to the advancement of knowledge in countless scientific and engineering endeavors. You will also study courses taught by the best of our researchers, three of whom are Nobel Prize Laureates, who will expose you to the frontiers of science in the area of your choice.

The diversity of research areas and the emphasis we put on a personally adjusted curriculum for each student will provide you with the opportunity to use your talent to fulfill your academic and professional interests in the field of your choice. These will surely serve you well in your future professional, scientific or engineering career.

Regarding the language of teaching, Israel proudly revived the ancient Hebrew language and studies at the Technion are conducted in Hebrew. However, teachers will gladly teach in English upon a request from international students. Almost all the teaching materials are in English and all mentors are used to presenting conference lectures and writing their papers in English. There is a Graduate School requirement to attend an Ulpan – a Hebrew language school, on an elementary level and pass a test on basic Hebrew. This has never stood in the way of our international students to success.

In this booklet we put together up to date information on registration and the variety of programs in our Graduate School.

I invite you to pursue your future studies in the Technion.
I am sure your studies here will be a fulfilling, enjoyable and memorable.
I look forward to seeing you among our students next year.
