The Technion campus The Technion campus extends over a 300-acre area on the pine-covered upper north eastern slopes of Mount Carmel, in a setting of great scenic beauty. Allocated by the Government of Israel in 1953, the campus ranges over 100 buildings and is called Technion City. In addition to lecture halls and laboratories for teaching and research, on-campus facilities include the Elyachar Central Library, the Taub Computer Center, an amphitheater, a physical fitness center, dormitories, post office, bank, student bookstore, a mini market, cafeterias, and a synagogue. The original woodland has been preserved, in addition to new cultivated trees and greenery. Emphasis has been placed on gardens and pleasant landscaping, giving the campus all the characteristics of a park. The Technion's Faculty of Medicine and the Rappaport Family Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences are situated near the Rambam Medical Center in Bat-Galim (in the Lower City) and form a separate campus. The Technion's old original campus is located in Hadar HaCarmel and presently houses the Technoda, Israel's National Museum of Science, Planning and Technology. The building is old, and unique in its architectural design. It constitutes a monument to the beginning of higher education institutes in Israel.
