Deadlines
Please submit your Application for Admission forms to The Graduate School,
together with all additional required material, no later than the following
deadlines:
For enrollment to the Fall semester: April 1.
For enrollment to the Spring semester: November 1.
Please note that delays in the receipt of transcripts and all other documents
might delay your admission process.
Applicants may be considered for admission towards the end of their
previous degree studies. A non-Technion undergraduate or graduate student is
required to present a full, officially documented undergraduate record as
well as a record of all graduate work completed when filing for application.
Final grades are to be submitted as soon as they are available.
While a student may, in some cases, register before completing all his/her
academic degree requirements, his/her admission depends on receipt of
official documents attesting to the conferring of the degree. Should the
student desire to postpone his/her studies to a later date, he/she is
required to submit a written request for deferment within a month of his/her
acceptance. The Graduate School will consider such requests and inform the
student of the decision.
General Academic Requirements
The following are the general requirements applicable to all graduate
students in the Technion. Several Graduate Study committees add special
academic requirements of their own. Please refer to the following chapters of
the specific programs.
Applicants to the Graduate School should hold a grade average (GPA) of at
least 75% , in order to be considered for admission. Please note, that most
departments require a higher GPA. It is advisable to contact the the
Admission Office at the Graduate School prior to registration.
Master degrees
Master degrees are awarded by all departments and interdisciplinary programs
at the Technion. A research degree (M.Sc.) requires course work as well as
writing a thesis or a final paper. In some cases supplementary courses are
assigned. For more specific details please refer to the departments' website.
A non-research degree (M.E.) is offered by some of the departments. The M.E.
requires course work and a project/seminar as well. For more specific details
please refer to the departments' website.
Ph.D. Degree
Enrollment in a doctoral program requires the candidate to hold an M.Sc.
degree. (A Research degree (thesis) and high academic achievements are a
must).
Direct Ph.D. Track
Students who achieve high grades and show good research work can, upon a
recommendation of the advisor and the department's graduate committee, be
transferred directly to the Ph.D. track.
Doctoral students are required to pass a candidacy examination within 11
months of beginning their doctoral program. The examination focuses on the
research proposal the student submits.
Graduates of a five year M.Sc. degree with a research thesis
may apply for a PhD Degree. Please submit two letters of recommendations in
English including one from your advisor.
GRE and GMAT
Applicants who hold an M.Sc. degree with thesis from an
international university and are applying for a Ph.D. and those who apply for
an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering are required to pass the GRE General Test
(Technion code: 0343). Applications will be considered by the departments'
committees only after receiving the GRE results. Exemption from the GRE test
for PhD candidates will be considered in special cases, and per the
recommendation of the department's Graduate Committee
(Technion code for the GRE - 0343 Email: http://www.gre.org).
Applicants to the Business Administration track (MBA), are required to pass
the GMAT exam before beginning their studies. The department's committee will
consider applications only after receiving the GMAT results (Technion code

Language Requirements
Hebrew
Most
classes are conducted in Hebrew which is the official language of Israel.
International applicants
are encouraged, upon their admission, to study a
basic Hebrew course.
New Immigrants ("Olim") are required to pass a Hebrew test prior to
their admission. The tests are given three times a year; In June and
September (before the fall semester), and in January (before the spring
semester). A second Hebrew test, of a higher level, is required after
admission and beginning of studies at the allocated time as appears on the
admission letter. Samples of tests can be found at the Humanities
Department's website http://humanities.technion.ac.il.
For more details please contact the department at: 972-(0)4-8293507.
English
Most textbooks and scientific papers required for graduate studies at the
Technion are in English and visiting professors sometime teach in English.
Therefore, knowledge of English is a prerequisite for admission to the
Graduate School.
Applicants from English speaking countries, who hold, either a high school
diploma, or an academic degree, are exempt from the English tests.
International applicants from non-English speaking countries (not
"Olim") are required to pass the English test at the Technion either
prior to or at the end of the first semester of their studies. If a GRE /
GMAT test was taken and the verbal score is 75% and up, an exemption from
English granted.
Samples of tests can be found at the Humanities Department's website http://humanities.technion.ac.il.
For more details please contact the department at: 972-(0)4-8293507.
All Ph.D. students are required to take an "Academic English

An international student who is enrolled in an academic
program taught in English – such as MBA- will be exempt from the Hebrew
language requirenment.
Academic English Writing Course (for Ph.D. students)
This course is required of all Ph.D. students.
Summer Ulpan
Overseas students with no prior knowledge of Hebrew, who enroll for the Fall
semester, are offered an intensive Hebrew course during the summer, which is
called 'Summer Ulpan'. (not applicable to "olim").
Registration to Courses
Registration to courses is open to students who have been officially admitted
to the Graduate School. Graduate students are required to register in person,
after consulting with their assigned faculty advisor.
Tuition Fees
Upon admission, students are required to sign a Form of Agreement to pay all
tuition fees. This requirement cannot be waived. If the student subsequently
receives a scholarship covering tuition fees, or alternatively is not
admitted, the commitment is null and void. Tuition fee is per degree. Tuition
fee for a Master degree is between 27,000-40,000 NIS. Tuition fee for a Ph.D.
degree is between 30,000-36,000 NIS. Tuition fee for international students
is 25% higher.
Visas
International students who have been accepted to graduate studies are
required to apply for a student Visa at an Israeli Consulate in their home
town, priot to arriving in Israel.
How to get or extend your student Visa
This process involves three steps:
- Make an appointment
- Prepare your documents
- Get your Visa
Step 1. Make an appointment
Call the nearest Israeli Embassy or Consulate to make an appointment.
Step 2. Prepare your documents
You will need:
- Your passport
- An official letter from
Technion verifying that you are a student
- Two passport photos (the
rectangular version)
- The Visa request form http://www.moin.gov.il/apps/pubwebsite/services.nsf/all/503be1478c3cd1c9422569d70042fa26/$file/serviceheb.pdf?openelement
- 165 NIS (or its equivalent in
foreign currency)
Step 3. Get your Visa
Bring all the documents to your appointment.
Applying for a Student Visa in Israel is done through the Ministry of the
Interior [entails a fee]. Technion Center for International Academic
Relations and the Technion Graduate School are happy to assist you with
updating and extending your visa.
If you are an Israeli citizen, or entitled to obtain Israeli citizenship,
please make sure you hold a valid Israeli passport and consult your local
Israeli Consulate to establish your citizenship rights. In general there are
two types of visas which allow students to enter Israel:
- Immigration visas - granted to
those who wish to make Aliyah (settling permanently in Israel). These
entitle students to the various rights and services afforded to Olim/new
immigrants.
- Student visas granted to those
who do not intend to settle in Israel.
Oleh (immigration) Visas
An Oleh visa is granted to those included in Israel's Law of Return who wish
to settle permanently in Israel.
Other visas:
- Student A/2
Visa - The A/2 visa applies to students who have been admitted to a
university in Israel and intend to stay in the country for a year or
longer. This visa can be extended for the duration of the student's
studies.
Holders of an A/2 visa are not entitled to receive Oleh privileges and
services. However, those who maintain independent households in Israel
are entitled to request a tax exemption from the Customs Authority for
the purchase of essential household appliances made in Israel. They may
also apply to the Ministry of the Interior for special work permits.
- Tourist B/2 Visa - The B/2 visa
applies to those who wish to stay in Israel for a short period of time.
It is granted for a period of three months, and could be extended by the
Ministry of the Interior every three months, up to a maximum stay of 27
months. As a rule, tourists are not allowed to work in Israel and are
not entitled to receive Oleh privileges and services.
Citizenship
People who enter Israel on an Oleh visa or who change their status to that of
Oleh during their stay, are automatically granted Israeli citizenship after
three months.
Israeli authorities allow the holding of dual citizenship. However, some
countries do not. Hence, Olim should become familiar with the laws of their
native country regarding dual citizenship.
Olim who do not wish to become Israeli citizens have to submit a written
declaration to that effect to the Ministry of the Interior, within three
months after acquiring Oleh status, and receive a temporary citizen status.
They are not entitled to vote for the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament) but
may vote in loca1 elections.
Please note: The information provided here on visas and status is general.
For further information please contact your nearest Aliyah representative
(shaliach) at home, or either the Student Authority or the Ministry of the
Interior in Israel.
Keep your letter of acceptance to the Technion together with your passport.
It has proven useful in speeding up matters with customs and other official
authorities. For changes or extensions of visas please apply to the Ministry
of the Interior in Haifa, upon your arrival. Passport photos are required for
the visa.
