The purpose of this thesis is to identify the inherent tourism potential of the city of Acre and to suggest those tourist activities with a potential to enhance the city's growth and economic prosperity.
Acre serves today as a short stopover for tourists touring the north of the country. Notwith-standing the quantity of visitors, the tourism industry does not contribute significantly to the city's economy, because most visitors arrive in organized groups, their stay is short, their schedule is tight, and their buying activity is limited.
A survey of the relevant public programs indicates that- in the past decade there has been no fundamental change in the Tourism Ministry’s view of Acre’s status as a tourist city. It is still considered a mediocre tourist site in the north of the country and no plans have been evolved or resources earmarked for the Purpose of transforming it into a tourist center.
The present paper Proposes criteria for setting priorities in the development of tourist attractions The criteria can be a basis for Planning a desirable mix in tourism development, one that will cause in the maximum profits and local benefits.
