Radiation Sources: Black-Body Radiation, Spontaneous and Stimulated Radiation, Light Emitting Diodes, Diode Injection Laser, Displays. Electro-Optical Radiation Detectors: Operating Principles of Quantum and Thermal Detectors, Measures for Performance of Detectors, Survey of Photo-Voltaic and Photo-Conductive Quantum Detectors, Absorption of Radiation in Semiconductors, Calculation of Responsivity and Noise Spectral Density, Defectivity, Noise Equivalent Power. Examples: Si, Insb, and Mct Detectors, Solar Cells. Time Response. Charge-Coupled Radiation Detectors, Detector Arrays. Photo-Conductive Detectors: Ambipolar Transport, Photo-Conductive Detectors, Responsivity, Noise and Detectivity, Detector Arrays. Thermal Detectors: Thermopiles, Pyroelectric Detectors. Signal Processing: Coupling of Detectors to Amplifiers, Noise Requirements, Charge-Coupled Structures, Integrators and Multiplexers, Examples.
